Distribution : Widespread over most of Britain , but less common in SE England , N Scotland and Ireland.

Habitat : Meadows and roadsides in sunny situations.

Description : Native perennial of medium height (up to 60cm) with large, bright blue flowers over an inch across from June to September. The flowers can range from bright blue to soft purple. The long flowering period has made it popular for planting in gardens.

Wildlife : Larval food plant of the Brown Argus Butterfly.
